Take the Texas CFL Challenge Today!

Replace all your incandescent lamp bulbs in your buildings. Replace all your incandescent lamp bulbs in desk top lamps, free-standing lamps everywhere. Inform and educate your employees on the benefits of CFLs and Tell us your story. What did you do?

Replacing a 75-watt incandescent bulb with a 20-watt CFL will reduce your consumption of electricity by roughly 550 kilowatt-hours-- over the life of that bulb.

Spiral Compact Fluorescent Lamp

If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road (ENERGY STAR). Replace one 100-watt bulb with a just-as-bright 30-watt compact fluorescent, and cut more than 1,300 pounds of the global warming pollutant carbon dioxide over the life of the bulb.

A CFL will save about $36.00 in electricity (compared to the incandescent bulb) during its rated life.

Because of this, CFLs are often categorized by lumens. Lumens measure the amount of light a bulb gives off, and they are a more accurate way to tell how bright the new bulbs are.

It's time. This is a great way to save energy and reduce emissions and all you need to do to begin is to eliminate your incandescent light bulb. Say goodbye. Take the challenge.

Saving money and energy can be as simple as the twist of an ENERGY STAR.-qualified CFL bulb. It's a quick and easy solution to lowering utility bills while saving energy and protecting the environment.

The Texas Energy Partnership and Texas State Energy Conservation Office are encouraging Texas residents to "Change the World" one light, one step at a time by replacing their home's five most frequently used light fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with ENERGY STAR.-qualified CFLs. In the average home, the most frequently used fixtures are in the living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom and master bathroom. By making this change, a household can save more than $60 a year in energy costs
