Public Education and Outreach
Texas leads the nation in energy production, producing more crude oil, natural gas, electricity and wind power. However, the state also leads in consumption. Texas' energy use in 2005 represented 11.5% of U.S. energy consumption, ranking Texas ahead of all other states. The confluence of population, climate and energy-intensive industries drive this seemingly disproportionate share.
An enhanced and focused outreach and education campaign will be conducted by CPA/SECO to encourage renewable energy use and support energy efficiency efforts for all Texans which will contribute to energy savings, emissions reductions, cost savings and job creation. In addition, a broad statewide campaign will provide a unified and credible source of energy information to the widest audience possible to amplify existing energy outreach and education taking place across the state.
Texas Powerful Smart
The theme of the campaign is “Powerful Smart for Texans” and it focuses on the small ways Texans can be smart with their energy usage and conserve energy without sacrificing comfort. The corresponding web portal for the consumer campaign, Texas Powerful Smart, provides information on Texas energy, energy efficiency tips and details on residential incentives. Residents and businesses can sign up to receive Energy Efficiency updates via e-mail or visit TX Powerful Smart on Twitter.
Eureka! Award Program
Additionally, Texas will establish a Eureka! award program to help small Texas businesses promote their market-ready products and technologies that showcase renewable-energy and energy-efficiency and that offer proven measures of effectiveness and benefit to others.
